Who sells firewood
in South Jersey

37 sellers so far, with their own phone numbers, in one place — and growing. The list starts below. Call whoever you like — we don't take a cut and we're not in the middle of it.

The list

Firewood sellers
in South Jersey

Taken from what each one publishes about themselves. We have no relationship with anyone on this list, and we have not tested anybody's wood. It's here because when you need wood in January you need a phone number.

This list is not complete, and we're not going to pretend it is. Plenty of the best firewood around here comes off a truck belonging to somebody with no website, no listing and a number that gets passed between neighbors. A search engine cannot find those people. You can — tell us who we're missing.

A blank cell means we don't know it, and we'd rather show you that than fill it in. A moisture number goes on a row when the seller meters their own stack and signs for the figure, dated and in their own name. Same for a price: we won't lift one off a website, because we'd have no idea when it changed and a stale number here becomes an argument in somebody's driveway. What it takes →

Being on this list means one thing: they publicly advertise firewood in this area, and we wrote down what they publish — name, phone, town, and what they say they sell. It doesn't mean we've inspected them or know anything about their wood. What we know is what you can see.

Most of these are tree services and garden centers that sell firewood alongside the main job, which is genuinely most of this trade. The firewood-only operators run on a phone number and word of mouth with no website at all, so they're harder to find and they're being added by hand.

Is this your business?

Fix it or add to it — no account, no fee, and no “claim your listing” runaround. A row is your name, town, number and what you sell, taken from what you already publish. If you've stopped selling firewood, tell us and the row comes off.

The price and moisture columns are empty on every row, and that is the accurate state, not a gap we're hiding. A price appears when a seller gives us one and keeps it current; a reading appears when they meter their own stack and sign for it. Until then, ask them the four questions — they work on a seller who has never heard of us.

These numbers came off what each business publishes — a sign, a listing, a website — not off a phone call. When a row carries a dated Confirmed stamp, it means a person answered that number on that date. Most directories never publish that date, which is exactly why so many of them are quietly full of dead numbers. Until a row carries one, treat the number the way you'd treat any number you found online. If one is wrong, tell us and it gets fixed or pulled. How the list gets kept honest →

You can fix this list

Tell us what's wrong

A directory rots. Numbers change, people retire, a business that sold firewood for thirty years stops. The thing that keeps a list like this honest is the people using it — and you're holding the phone at the moment you find out something's out of date.

01

The number's dead or wrong

Disconnected, rings out, or answers as somebody else. This is the one we most want to hear about — it costs the caller their time and the business a job it never knew about.

02

They've closed, or stopped selling wood

Out of business, retired, or still trading but out of the firewood side of it. All three are worth knowing; only one means the row comes off.

03

Anything else that's off

Wrong town, a description that doesn't match what they sell — or it's your business and you'd rather not be here at all.

What happens next

Nothing changes because one person said so. That isn't negotiable in either direction: a competitor can't get a rival's row pulled by filling in a form, and a business can't get a real problem buried by objecting to it.

  1. You report it. Twenty seconds, no account. We ask for a cell so we can text you back — never published, never given to a seller.
  2. A person reads it and checks it before anything moves. A report is a reason to check, never a reason to edit.
  3. Then the row changes, with the date. If we can't confirm it either way the row reads Checking until we can — rather than silently disappearing, or silently staying.

A row we can't confirm stays up, marked. Deleting it hides the one fact you most needed: that this number doesn't work any more.

Actually bought wood from one of them? That's a review, not a report, and it's the more valuable of the two. A report fixes a phone number. A review tells the next person what came off the truck.

Four questions, before
you agree to anything

Until this list has metered rows on it, this section is the most useful thing on the page. These are the questions we'd ask, in the order we'd ask them, and the answers tell you nearly everything.

01

“What does it meter, and when did you check?”

Not “is it seasoned.” Seasoned is a word anybody can say and nobody has to prove. A number with a date behind it is a different kind of answer, and how a seller handles the question tells you more than the number does.

A good answer sounds like: “Last I checked that row it was running 17 to 19, that was a couple weeks ago.” A bad answer sounds like: “It's all seasoned.” Neither one is a lie. Only one of them is checkable.

02

“Is that a full cord — 128 cubic feet, stacked?”

Loose firewood has to be sold by the cord or a fraction of one — “face cord,” “rack” and “truckload” are prohibited terms in New Jersey, in the advertisement as much as at the sale. Packaged bundles are the exception and are sold by the bundle. The measuring rules →

03

“Do I get a delivery ticket with your name on it?”

New Jersey already requires one on every non-packaged firewood sale: the seller's name and address, the quantity in cords, the price, the date, and any quality claim they made — including the word seasoned. Plenty of sellers around here don't provide one, and asking is the fastest way to tell a real operation from a guy with a truck.

04

“What if it reads wetter than you said, or the load is short?”

Two things you can actually check with a meter and a tape — which is why these are the ones to ask about. Ask before you pay, while you still have leverage, and listen for whether they've thought about it. A seller who says “call me and I'll come look at it” has told you something real. The ones who've put that promise in writing carry the Guarantee.

Then check it yourself when it lands. A pin moisture meter is about $38 and it settles every argument in this trade permanently. Split a piece, press the pins into the fresh inside face. Over 20% and it isn't ready, whatever the sign said. We don't sell meters — here's where to get one.

Reading the table

Two labels, and every
row has the first one

No third label, no premium placement, and nothing here you can buy your way up.

Listed

We copied down their phone number

They advertise firewood publicly, we found them, and we wrote down what they publish. No agreement, no fee, nothing on file about their wood. They didn't ask to be here, and if they've stopped selling firewood we want to know so the row comes off.

Guaranteed

They put a moisture reading in writing

The seller meters their own stacks the published way, sends the reading with the date, and signs the South Jersey Firewood Guarantee: if a load reads wetter than the standard they published, they make it right within seven days. Top it up, swap it or refund it — their choice which, not their choice whether.

It's their reading, not our test, and the row says so. The Guarantee, in full →

And then there's you, which isn't a label at all. A pin meter is about $38. Split a piece off your own load, read the fresh face, and put the number in a review — it publishes next to whatever the seller claimed, in its own column. That's the check on the whole thing.

From people who actually bought

Reviews, and where
the numbers come from

The rules first, before there's anything riding on them. A review policy is worth more read in advance than after, so here is exactly how one gets published and what it can and can't tell you. Every figure that ever appears here will say who took it, which is the difference between a directory and a noticeboard.

01

What the seller committed to

A Guaranteed seller meters their own stacks the published way and sends us the number with the date. We publish it in their name, because they signed it — and because a seller willing to put a number in writing is already ahead of most of this trade.

It's a claim, not a measurement we took. What makes it worth reading is the remedy attached to it and the fact that it is dated, specific and public. The Guarantee →

02

What the buyer's meter said

A pin meter is about $38. Split a piece off the load that turned up in your driveway, read the fresh inside face, and put the number in a review. It publishes next to the seller's claim, in its own column, labeled every time.

This is the check, and it is the only number here that nobody selling anything had a hand in. Add yours →

Two numbers that disagree is a feature, not a mess. A seller commits to 17% and a buyer with a meter reads 21% — that's two honest readings of two different piles on two different days, and seeing the spread tells you more about a seller than either figure alone. What you should distrust is a directory where every number agrees. And a seller whose buyers keep reading well over what they signed for loses the Guarantee, in public, with the date.

What a review will look like

Every column below is a fact somebody can check: what they were told, what their meter read, whether the load measured, and whether they got a ticket. The row is filled in with sample text so you can see the shape — it swaps itself out for real ones automatically. We publish the format up front because a review policy is worth more read before there's anything at stake than after. The rules →

Nobody is chased for a review. A review gets written because somebody decided to write one, and it doesn't publish until we've texted them back and had a reply. The rules →

Leave a review Bought firewood from anyone on this list? Two minutes. We send one text to check it's really you, and that's the only one you'll get.
The state requires one on a delivered load. If you have it, your review is flagged as a documented purchase.
They don't have to be on our list. A review of a seller we've never heard of is how sellers get onto it.
New Jersey requires this of the seller. Yes or no, not an opinion — which is why we ask.
Optional, and published as buyer-reported in its own column — never merged with what the seller published.

We publish your first name and town only.
We text this before anything publishes. Not to sell you anything — to confirm there's a real person on the end of it. Never published, never given to the seller.
Optional. Only used if we need to ask you something.

Before you write it, so nothing is a surprise. We publish your first name and town. Nothing else — not your surname, not your address, not your phone number.

The seller never gets your contact details. They get the review and the right to reply in public under their own name. They cannot get it taken down, and asking you to change or remove it ends their listing. That is one strike, not two.

A person reads every review before it goes up — a person, not a filter. We may text you to check a detail. We are not allowed to hold a review back for being negative, and the rules we moderate by are published.

You get nothing for writing this and that's deliberate. No discount, no credit, no prize draw — a review that's worth money to the writer isn't worth much to the reader. Your details are never published, never given to a seller, and never used to market anything. The whole policy →

Nothing publishes until we've texted you

Every review is read by a person and checked by text before it goes anywhere near the site. That text is the gate. It costs a bot nothing to fill in a form and quite a lot to hold a conversation from a working cell number.

What we can and can't prove

Being straight about this: we can confirm you're a real person who says they bought wood. We usually cannot prove the purchase, because the sale was between you and the seller and we were never part of it.

A delivery ticket number changes that — the state requires one on a delivered load, and a review with a ticket number behind it publishes as a documented purchase. The rest publish as what they are.

What we do with a bad one

Publish it, tell the seller, and give them two business days to reply in public. A Guaranteed seller who won't make a bad load right loses the Guarantee, publicly, with the date.

Nothing gets deleted because somebody didn't like it. Anything held back is counted, and the totals get published.

How a review actually reaches this page

Every review is moderated before it publishes, and the moderation is not a filter or a queue — it's a person reading it and then texting you. There is no automatic path from that form to this page. A submitted review becomes a message; a published review is one somebody typed in afterward, by hand, having confirmed a real person on a real cell number. That is slow, it does not scale, and at this volume it is exactly the right trade.

We are not allowed to hold a review back for being negative and we won't. Under the FTC's Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule, writing a fake review or suppressing a real one carries civil penalties — and it would also be the single stupidest way to lose this business.
